Although he was a kind and devoted father, and gave his beloved child every luxury and comfort, still he felt she needed a mother’s care. Here in a stately chateau there lived a widowed gentleman and his little daughter, Cinderella. Once upon a time in a faraway land there was a tiny kingdom, peaceful, prosperous, and rich in romance and tradition. For who could ever learn to love a beast? As the years passed, he fell into despair and lost all hope. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year. Ashamed of his monstrous form, the beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. And as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous beast and placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. The prince tried to apologize, but it was too late, for she had seen that there was no love in his heart. And when he dismissed her again, the old woman’s ugliness melted away to reveal a beautiful enchantress. But she warned him not to be deceived by appearances, for beauty is found within. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away. But then, one winter’s night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. Most of all, have fun! Auditions can be very stressful and you will probably be nervous, but being prepared is the best way to make everything much easier! You could use anything from Shel Silverstein or Dr. There just aren’t too many plays written for those of you in elementary school, and even fewer of those plays that do exist have monologues in them. Sometimes, choosing a monologue can be really difficult, especially when you’re still a bit young. No one else will be onstage but you, so you’ve got to own it. Appeal to the audience and show the directors what you can do! Remember that your monologue is your time to shine. Use some personality! Move around the stage. In order to really stand out above the crowd, you’ve got to actually perform your monologue. However, memorizing a monologue is only the beginning. Because we only have a few months to put a show together, this skill is extremely necessary!
